An effective treatment

Hello everyone.  My new doctor thinks I might have neurodermatitis.  I've been suffering from inflammation and terrible itching on many parts of my body and scalp for about 25 years.  No medicine, topical or oral has ever been much help until recently when my doctor prescribed an anti-depressant (amitriptyline) which is also an antihistamine.  Finally, I have relief!  I just hope it lasts.

What other effective medications do people with neurodermatitis use, and how effective are they?

Hey Ron,
I'm new here but unfortunatly not new to neurodermatitis. I've been suffering from it for almost 4 years now. My doctor had prescribed Prozac to help try to reduce the stress. I found this did not work for me. I have been buying different creams and have come across 1 that has helped me a bit.
The website is www.oliviersoaps.com . The product I use is callled Creme for Dry Skin. It is rather pricey, but I can honestly say it helps. Most of my neurodermatitis has cleared up, however I am still looking for something to relieve the itching.
I may have to mention the amitriptyline to my doctor and see if I can get some. The itching drives me crazy.

Hi Sheri.  Other antihistamines might be effective too and doctors usually want to try those first.  I tried that expensive moisturizing cream too but was not helped by it.  I think a had a very severe case because nothing else helped.
