I am a newbie to forums. My husband has neurodermatitis and uses clobetasol both liquid and cream. Is there any better way to treat this stuff? Where can I find information on the subject? Thanks!

What is this cream for? For moisturizing or does it contain cortisone? Could you post the composition here?

My dermatologist recommended Aquaphor for me but I don't like it so much.

it's clobetasol. 0.5 mg clobetasol in an ointment base of petroleum, propylene glycol and sorbitan sesquioleate, now that's a mouth full. he also uses the liquid form for his scalp.

I don't see a problem with the ingredients. You may like a creme or emulsion more than an ointment. At least I do. Clobetasol is an steroid. I use steroid/cortisone from time to time too but it can have side effects (like making your skin thinner). It also depends where you use it, the skin in the face is very sensitive. I  Did you discuss treatment with immunosuppressants (Elidel, Protopic) with your dermatologist? They help a lot but they have side effects too (see FDA warning, avoid sun exposure). Further you will need to use a  moisturizing  cream daily for your skin. I try to avoid all creams with lanolin since it irritates my skin.

Susan

PS: sometimes I use Betamethasone dipropionate ointment 0.05% (ALPHARMA) but this is VERY strong and you are not supposed to use it a lot. For my scalp I use clobetasol too (just looked it up). The brand is OLUX. But most of the time I try to get by with special shampoos.

Boy, I didn't know that lanolin was a no-no! Just dumped 3 bottles of lotion in the trash. Is there a particular brand that you prefer?

You will need a moisturizing creme. I get mine from France. My doctor gave me a free sample of ELTA "The Melting moisturizer". It does not contain Lanolin but I don't like it so much. What did your dermatologist recommend you?

Eucerin, it's supposed to be for really dry skin. I leaves a real shine on the skin and in humid conditions it is miserable. There has to be a better lotion. What medication do you use?

I don't like Eucerin so much. I used it as a child.
I use a hydrocortisone cream, Protopic (have not tried Elidel yet) and a cream that I buy sometimes from my dermatologist in France.

humid conditions: do it apply only very thin! If you apply it too much it will increase your skin temperature and this may induce itching
shine: At night it does not matter. During the day I apply my cream and then I use a tissue to remove excess cream and to take away the shine.

PS:

Last week I bought my foam with clobetasol from Olux. I was shocked. It was 140 US$ for 50g!
This stuff should not be patent protected anymore. I wonder why it is so expensive.

Why don't the doctor's take the time to explain to us the correct ways to apply creams, salves and liquids? The more I get into this, the more I begin to wonder just what IS the best medicine for the stuff. There are times when my husband will have small break outs and times when most of his back for instance will be covered. There has to be a medication that will tame the monster that causes this stuff.
Any suggestions? Please?

Did you try a tanning studio? Most of them offer tanning with UVA and UVB and it helps me a lot.

Most tanning studios offer equipment with UVA/UVA. It is very good for your skin and it also kills bacteria on your skin. People with Neurodermatitis have often high counts of Pseudomonas aeruginosa on their skin. It also will dry your skin out a little bit. Make sure you apply a moisturizer afterwards. Start with a low exposure time to avoid a sun burn. Just try it. You don't have anything to loose.  happy
